Google Grants

Google Grants is a scheme run by Google in the UK to help charities promote their websites on the Google Search Engine. Google offers up to $10,000 a month to registered charities in order for them to advertise using Google AdWords.

There are a number of restrictions for those using the Google Grant when compared to the standard paid Adwords service:

· Maximum cost-per-click is restricted to $1

· You can only advertise on Google not their search partners e.g. Google Maps, Amazon

· You can not advertise on the content network

Due to having a restriction of $1 per click, it is more important to make sure that the ad text is compelling and landing pages are relevant, which will in turn increase the keyword quality scores (and ranking positions of the ads).

Although the grant gives you a free click budget, Google does not assist you in setting up and managing the account. To be eligible for the grant you must be seen to actively manage the account. Google guidelines for actively managing the account are:

  • Build your Google Grants AdWords accountGoogle AdWords Grant
  • Be responsive to email requests from the Google team
  • Log in monthly to review campaign performance and make updates

Should you not actively manage your account, Google will cancel your grant.
