How to pick the perfect digital marketing platform

In the competitive world of business, marketing your product or company in the right way is vital. But even if you have the perfect approach to selling your product, you will never fulfil the potential of a strong marketing strategy if you pick a weak platform.

I’ve created a list of the top four things I encourage my clients to consider when choosing a platform. Why not take a look and see how you can improve your online advertising strategy?

The best places to advertise online

1 –  Set your objective

When working on a project, it’s easy to become so involved that you drift away from the main objective. From the outset, focus on what you want to achieve whether it be raising brand awareness, increasing engagement levels or driving traffic to your site. Once your objective is set, ask yourself how each platform can help to meet your objective and to what extent.

2 – Consider your audience

While it may seem routine to think about your audience, it is easy to become misled by your own ideas.

For example, if you’re selling a product with a strong aesthetic, you may be tempted to focus on platforms such as Instagram and Pinterest. However, it’s important to consider the age, gender and behavioural traits of your target audience. If you’re targeting an older generation that mainly uses desktops, think about how likely they are to be tech-savvy and browsing through these popular platforms.

3- Make your budget go further

We all know it’s easy to blow big bucks in marketing, so finding a platform that works with your budget should be a priority. If you’re willing to invest heavily into a campaign, social is a great way to get your company out there and to engage with all age groups. With new filters regularly appearing on all the main social sites, it’s also becoming easier to pinpoint a specific audience. But if you’re on a tight budget, pick a platform that is more focused and less competitive. While the traffic levels may be lower, so will your billing invoice.

4 –  Experiment

You never know until you try. Taking the risk of experimenting with a new platform can provide you with a clearer insight into how to approach your audience and sell your product or service. There are new opportunities for advertising arising all the time and it’s important to keep up with your competitors and get out there. But remember, if it doesn’t work for you, stop, re-evaluate and remember why that platform didn’t work for you.
